What will be left when I've drawn my last breath,
Besides the folks I've met and the folks who know me,
Will I discover a soul saving love,
Or just the dirt above and below me,

I'm a doubting thomas,
I took a promise,
But I do not feel safe,
Oh me of little faith,

Sometimes I pray for a slap in the face,
Then I beg to be spared 'cause I'm a coward,
If there's a master of death I'll bet he's holding his breath,
As I show the blind and tell the deaf about his power,
I'm a doubting thomas,
I can't keep my promises,
'Cause i don't know what's safe,
oh me of little faith

Can I be used to help others find truth,
When I'm scared I'll find proof that its a lie,
Can I be lead down a trail dropping bread crumbs,
That prove I'm not ready to die,

Please give me time to decipher the signs,
Please forgive me for time that I've wasted,

I'm a doubting thomas,
I'll take your promise,
Though I know nothin's safe,
Oh me of little faith

Costa Verde had our parking garages cleaned this week- so on Tuesday night, I move my car down the street to Cargill Avenue. Three days later, I am given the pleasant surprise of three parking tickets. Two of them are for the same offense- expired tags, something I didn't realize I had (Yeah, thanks for giving me the same ticket on back to back days when the previous ticket was lying unopened on the windshield). The third was for not cramping my wheels, even though I was barely even on a slope. Thanks city of San Diego for patrolling random streets and then handing out tickets like free candy, I really appreciate it.

Sifting through a notebook from last year and found an excerpt that I wrote during a Caribbean Literature section:

On A Monday

A wholly unengaging experience. the sands of time do not drop down, they hang in the balance, waiting for a reprieve that will grant them freedom. Freedom. Vertical columns of it glimpsed, a tiny hint of the possibilities a mere ten feet away. Artificial glare strikes like lightning, numbing the senses and evoking all the warmth of day old slop. Irrelevant frequencies arrive at the receptor sensors, requiring a cursory glance before they are dismissed. The jailor looms large over the captives, a constant drone in today's regimen. Release the shackles of Allfrey and Danticat. Concepts and symbolism- rinse, recycle, repeat. Somewhere, a creative being, a thought, an idea, it utters its last moans and collapses. Does anyone know CPR?

So, Spiderman 3 came out the other day. I went to go see it this morning with slight trepidation- I knew I would be entertained, but I wondered how many moments of the movie would make me cringe because of stilted dialogue (a must for a comic book movie) or an awkward love scene. Oh yeah, if you haven't seen it yet, I'm going to talk about the plot, so you shouldn't read on.

I was a bit concerned about the use of three different villains throughout the movie, and I do think that so many enemies did dilute the storyline a bit too much. I understand that each one played an important role in the plot, but I think the movie would have been better off if it had solely focused on Venom. Sandman was pretty much only in the movie to show off some cool special effects, as the link to Uncle Ben felt like a rather cheap and easy way to actually make Sandman relevant. As for Harry, I get that he's the best friend and that he's an important character, but basically all we got was a retelling of two Spiderman 2 plot lines: Harry macking on MJ and Harry trying to kill Peter for revenge. By the way, the Osborne's butler knew that Norman essentially killed himself, but he decided to reveal that only now? Uh, okay.

Ultimately, Spiderman 3 didn't really come together as a "good" movie for me. It was good in bits and pieces, but the presence of so many storylines crammed together in 2+ hours made the movie seem discombobulated. The FX were top-notch and the action scenes were excellent, as were the comedic moments. The Stan Lee cameo was pretty cheesy, but a nice and fairly necessary nod to the creator of the series. I still like the first movie of the series the best, probably just because it shows the very origin of the character and contains the most character development.

Months after thinking the name 'Wii' was retarded and that I might not get one if only because of the name, I found myself camping out for launch day. I arrived at Target around 11 PM on Saturday night with Jen Chang- thanks goes to Russell, who saved us spots in the line. The night was long and cold, but eventually 7 AM rolled around and we got our tickets, and about an hour and a half later I was holding a Wii box and a copy of Zelda in my arms. How sweet the payoff moment was, to have the hours and hours of waiting finally produce something tangible. After a day and a half I think I can say the Wii is a fantastic idea that is executed well, and probably the only negative is that me and my apartment mates' grades will collectively suffer.
